Two days after announcing that he would release his new album, “HitNRun”, exclusively through Tidel, legendary rocker Prince revealed why he’s sidestepped a record label and is offering the album through rapper Jay Z’s streaming service. Speaking to a small group of Black journalist from the National Association of Black Journalist at his Paisley Park Studios, the singer expressed concern over the future of the music industry. He also voiced disapproval over how record labels turn artists into “indentured servitude”, since artists have little control or insight over how labels take their music and profit off of it online. He stated  to reporters, “Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves”. Jay Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service”. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves”. He also debuted two new tracks from his album, “Love Control” and “Shut This Down”. Those tracks join the previously released single “Hardrocklover”.  He also told the Paisley Park crowd that “HitNRun” will be released physically at some point. Rapper/producer Dr. Dre has released “Compton”, his first solo album since “2001” in conjunction with the film “Straight Outta Compton”, which will be released Friday. The album includes guest artists Ice Cube, Cold 187um, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, The Game And Kendrick Lamar. The producer will once again introduce a new class of proteges. Anderson.Paak, King Mez, Jon Connor, Justin Morhle, Candice Pillay and Asia Bryant are the artists who are worthy of the Dr.’s stamp of approval.
