With funky horn powered grooves, impeccable musicianship and sexually explicit album covers the Ohio Players were one of the most popular funk bands of the 1970s. The band was formed in 1959 in Dayton Ohio and originally named the Ohio Untouchables. They later changed their name to the Ohio Players. The group backed up the vocal group the Falcons on their hit “I Found A Love” before recording several singles for tiny Dayton based Lupine Records. The group signed with Detroit based Westbound Records where they recorded four albums before moving on to Mercury Records. The group disbanded in 2002.
