Consisting of sisters Wanda, Sheila and Jeanette Hutchinson, the Emotions were among the leading female R&B groups of the 1970’s. Born and raised in Chicago Il, they began singing gospel as children and were known as the Hutchinson Sunbeams. They signed with the Stax/Volt label and worked with producers Isaac Hayes and David Porter where they hit the soul charts with “So I Can Love You” in 1969. When Stax folded in 1975, they signed with CBS Records and hooked up with Earth, Wind & Fire leader Maurice White, an association that lead to the pop/R&B hit “Best Of My Love” in 1977. They went on to issue albums through the 1980’s but were unable to recapture their earlier success.
